Welcome to the Queen’s Computing Society (QCS) website! My name is Conor Lee and I am the president of the society for 2014-2015. I have incredibly high hopes for the society this year and the years to come with the society being active in numerous different areas of student life. We aim to run social events as well as academic events so that our members are able to make the most of their time whether it is getting opportunities for their careers or just heading out to relax after a long day.
This will be the 4th year of the committee and I am very confident in the committee we have this year with a lot of experience and ideas throughout the committee. We endeavour to bring a whole host of different social events to the calendar this year including pub crawls, games nights, quizzes along with also bring a number of academic events such as a games jam, talks from key companies and other opportunities. We will be active this year getting students together and helping you meet some key people.
The society has links with numerous major organisations and is always keep to grow and gain more contacts to help our society members gain exposure to key players in the industry. This will be very important for students looking for placement or even students who want to find out more about the range of jobs available in industry.
I think one of the greatest opportunities that you can get in university is the chance to meet some incredible people, I would consider myself very lucky that I decided to get involved and go to the events as it has had a massive impact on my student experience. I have met a ton of awesome people through QCS that otherwise I would never have had the chance to meet. If there is one thing you do all year it should be joining QCS.
The society is fully student lead and will offer a number of opportunities to get involved. Joining the committee can be extremely rewarding, offering you the chance to beef up your CV along with meeting some amazing people and companies. It also is fun and rewarding to be part of something bigger than yourself.
Queen’s Computing Society is always looking for new opportunities, links and ideas to give our members the best experience possible. We look forward to seeing you at our events and if you have any questions feel free to get in touch with myself or another member of the committee.
On behalf of myself and the committee, I would like to wish you all the best this year and we look forward to meeting you!
